We've all been there: you see a cute dress and you get emotionally attached. You're hustling to the dressing room, you're imagining all the compliments you're going to get on your next GNO, you pull it over your head, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand...

There's no chance for a bra. None. Nada. Nil. No way.

Enter boob tape. Back in the day, the Kim Kardashians of the world were fashioning makeshift bras out of duct tape, but the technology has come a long way since the aughts. We're going to walk you through some best practices for success. We only stock solutions with medical-grade adhesive for your safety. They're safe to wear for at least twelve hours and should be no problem for most skin types. Accept no substitute!

First: assess your need. Just a super deep V or a backless situation? You'll want these. You just pick your breast up, stick the top part to your upper chest, and stick the bottom part a bit lower. Works every time. Complicated neckline? You're going to want a roll of this and a pair of sharp scissors. Check out the YouTube tutorials for different looks and go to town. Just worried about a nip slip? Get the two-sided covers.

Second: get yourself ready. Take a shower and get your skin really clean. Towel off until you're really, really dry. Don't put on any lotion. Follow the directions on the package to apply, then pat it down to smooth. Sit quietly for a few minutes. Consider how much you're going to love your outfit. Have a Diet Coke.

Third: enjoy whatever you're going to do in your cool look. Self-explanatory.

Fourth: you gotta take the boob tape off. Doing this wrong is a mistake you make just once. You have four options here:

  • Lay a hot wash cloth on top of the tape to soften up the adhesive.
  • Take a hot shower to soften up the adhesive.
  • Use Boob Savior to soften up the adhesive.
  • Take a nap until you're awake enough to do one of the three above.

No matter what, don't grip it and rip it. You'll be devastated by your own choices. Any leftover residue? Use a little baby oil, shower oil, or similar to remove the rest in the same way you might a bandaid.

Body tape couldn't be easier, but it can feel a little daunting. If you still have questions, pop on by Underpinnings along with your dress, top, or jumpsuit and we'll help you figure out the best solutions for a great night out.
